Sparrow Club not only provides financial and emotional support for children and their families in medical need, but also empowers kids of all ages to help others through charitable service in their communities.
The Sparrow Club program teaches life lessons in compassion and selflessness through building relationships between a Sparrow family, a school student body, and our community. Sick kids get help, healthy kids become heroes and communities experience change. -Sparrow club USA official website
Sparrow Club is a non-profit organization that helps kids with medical conditions who need help paying their medical bills. Sparrow club was started in 1992 when 9 month old Michale Leeland was dying from leukemia. He needed a bone marrow transplant and their insurance didn't cover it. One boy named Damian decided he needed to help. He emptied his savings account, but with only 60 dollars that was not enough to make a difference. Word got around and the whole town was doing all sorts of things to help raise money. In 4 weeks they had raised 227,000 dollars. That money raised saved Michale Leeland. From there the word got around and many schools in the U.S. started to earn and raise money for a child in need. That is how Sparrow Club started.
